Rolling Closures on Highway 1 Set for Sunday September 8 for Bike Portion of Ironman Santa Cruz

Travelers on Highway 1 north of Santa Cruz will be subject to a rolling closure of the roadway on Sunday September 8, as competitors in the bike portion of the Ironman Santa Cruz Triathlon participate in the up and back, 56-mile portion of the race.

Northbound Highway 1 will be closed Sunday September 8, between Western Dr. in Santa Cruz and Pigeon Point Rd. in San Mateo County, from 7 am to 9:30 am, as riders complete the first leg of their ride.

Southbound Highway 1 will be closed Sunday September 8, between Pigeon Point Rd. and Western Dr. from 8:15 am to 11:45 am, as riders complete the return leg.

CHP will be on hand to assist with traffic control.

Additionally, CHP and traffic control teams will permit local traffic to enter Highway 1 during closure hours, when safe to do so, at the following locations:

Shaffer Rd., Dimeo Lane, Scaroni Rd., Coast Rd., Laguna Rd., Bonny Doon Rd., Davenport Ave., Davenport Landing Rd., Cement Rd., Hoover Rd., White House Canyon Rd., Rossi Rd., and Gazos Creek Rd.

Travelers at the above intersections with Hwy. 1 can expect delays of up to 30 minutes depending on the volume of riders passing at any given time.

Complete event details for the Ironman 70.3 Santa Cruz can be found here.

Congratulations to all competitors and special thanks to the local community for exercising extra caution while they travel in the area during race day activities.
