Daytime Full Closures of Highway 35/Skyline Rd in Santa Cruz/Santa Clara Counties for Slip Out Repairs Continue Through Next Tuesday, November 21

SANTA CRUZ/SANTA CLARA COUNTY – A Hwy. 35/Skyline Road construction project between the junction of Bear Creek Road/Skyline (PM 3.6) and Thompson Road (PM 4.0, south of 19975 Skyline Rd, Frosty’s Tree Farm and McKenzie Ranch) will continue with full daytime closures weekdays from 6 am to 6 pm through next Tuesday, Nov. 21 at 6 pm with a possibility of resuming following Thanksgiving week to repair several slip outs within the project limits due to the past winter storms.

This repair work is necessary for the safety of all travelers and to improve the condition of the roadway. It consists of constructing five soldier pile walls at the various slip out locations.

DETOUR: The Santa Clara County closure on Black Road ended at 3 pm today, Monday, Nov. 13 and residents north of the closure can now use Black Road to Hwy. 17. Motorists wanting to reach the northern side of the closure from Bear Creek Road are advised to take Bear Creek Road down to Hwy. 17 and back up Black Road.

The contractor for this $7,000,000 project is Granite Construction of Watsonville. This roadwork is part of a series of separate projects to repair slides and slip outs on Hwy. 1, Hwy. 9, Hwy 35, and Hwy. 236 in Santa Cruz County. These overnight closures are scheduled to go through the mid-December, weather permitting.
