Highway 1 Bridge Demolition Project 24 Hour Full Closure Of Highway 1 Between Bay/Porter and Park Avenue in Capitola Saturday April 6 at 7 PM through Sunday April 7 at 7 PM
A 24-hour full closure of Highway 1 in Capitola will be in effect starting Saturday April 6 at 7 pm and ending Sunday April 7 at 7 pm. Crews will use this 24-hour closure to demolish the Capitola Ave. bridge overcrossing. This work is weather dependent.
This demolition work is associated with an ongoing project to construct north and southbound auxiliary lanes and bus-on-shoulder improvements on Hwy. 1 between the Bay Ave./Porter St. and State Park Drive interchanges. The project will also replace the existing Capitola Ave. overcrossing with a new bridge which will include improved sidewalks and bike lanes.

Travelers are advised that there may be significant delays associated with this closure. During closure hours, travelers on northbound Hwy. 1 will be directed off at the Park Ave. exit. Travelers on southbound Hwy. 1 will be directed off at the Bay/Porter exit. The detour plan is as follows.
Northbound Highway 1 Detour: Motorists traveling northbound on Highway 1 will be directed off at the Park Ave. exit, will travel north on Soquel Dr., and return to northbound Highway 1 at the Bay/Porter onramp.
Southbound Highway 1 Detour: Motorists traveling southbound on Highway 1 will be directed off at the Bay/Porter exit, will travel south on Soquel Dr., and return to southbound Highway 1 at the Park Ave. onramp.
During this 24-hour closure, regional travelers from the San Francisco Bay Area, including Santa Mateo and Santa Clara Counties, are advised that US 101 remains a viable alternative route to reach destinations on Hwy. 1 located south of Capitola.
Travelers from the Monterey Bay, the Salinas River Valley, and the Central Valley, are advised that US 101 remains a viable alternative to reach destinations on Hwy. 1 located north of Capitola.
