Daytime Closure of Southbound Highway 1 Onramp at Westbound 41st Avenue Set for Tuesday Jan. 2 Through Thursday Jan. 4
Construction continues on a project to construct north and southbound auxiliary lanes and bus-on-shoulder improvements on Highway 1 between the 41st Avenue and Soquel Drive interchanges and to construct a new bicycle and pedestrian overcrossing at Chanticleer Avenue.
For Tuesday Jan. 2 through Thursday Jan. 4, travelers will encounter a daytime closure of the loop onramp to southbound Hwy. 1 from westbound 41st Ave. from 9 am to 3 pm. The eastbound 41st Ave. onramp to southbound Hwy. 1 will remain open.
Message and directional signs will direct travelers to the southbound onramp for Hwy. 1 at Soquel Dr. Travelers can expect delays of up to 10 minutes.
This closure is necessary for construction activities to take place between the loop onramp and the southbound 41st Ave. onramp.
About the Highway 1 Corridor Project
This project will construct north and southbound auxiliary lanes and bus-on-shoulder improvements between the 41st Avenue and Soquel Avenue/Drive interchanges and construct a new bicycle and pedestrian overcrossing at Chanticleer Avenue. The auxiliary lanes will connect the on-ramps with the next off-ramp, thereby extending the weaving and merging distance between the ramps, improving traffic operations, and reducing cut-through traffic diverting to local streets and neighborhoods.
The bicycle/pedestrian overcrossing at Chanticleer Avenue will provide an alternative route for bicyclists and pedestrians currently using the Soquel or 41st interchanges to cross over Highway 1. The overcrossing will be lighted, 12- to 14-feet wide, and will incorporate aesthetic treatments consistent with the visual character of the corridor and the adjacent community.
The contractor for this $29 million project is Granite Construction of Watsonville, CA. This project is expected to be completed in late 2025.
