Highway 1 Onramp Closure 6/23

Published June 25, 2025

Park Avenue Onramp to Northbound Highway 1 Set to Close for Full Ramp Reconstruction Monday, June 23

A project to construct north and southbound auxiliary lanes and bus-on-shoulder improvements on Hwy. 1 between the Bay Avenue/Porter Street and State Park Drive interchanges continues with one additional ramp closure.

Closure of Park Ave. Onramp to Northbound Highway 1

Starting Monday, June 23, crews will close the northbound onramp to Highway 1 at Park Ave. to begin the full reconstruction of the ramp. This ramp closure is expected to remain in place for five months.

The closure of the northbound onramp at Park Ave. is in addition to the current closure of the southbound Hwy. 1 offramp at Park Ave. and the northbound Hwy. 1 offramp at Park Ave. where ramp reconstruction is ongoing.

A detour is available. Northbound travelers will be directed to take Soquel Dr. to Porter St. to join northbound Hwy. 1 at the Bay/Porter onramp. Southbound travelers will be directed to exit Hwy. 1 at the Bay/Porter offramp, continue on Bay Ave. to arrive at Park Ave.

Message and directional signs will alert travelers of these detours.

The contractor for this $78 million project is Granite Construction of Watsonville, CA and the project is expected to be completed by Fall of 2026.

Updated project information for the improvements on Highway 1 between the Bay Ave./Porter St. and State Park Drive interchanges can be found on the Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission’s website.

Road information and updates can also be found on Caltrans District 5 Social Media platforms: Twitter at: @CaltransD5, Facebook at: Caltrans Central Coast (District 5) and Instagram at: Caltrans_D5.

Our crews deserve to get home safely too. Drive slowly and carefully in work zones.
