Full Overnight Closures of Southbound Highway 1 Between Park Ave. and State Park Dr. Set to Begin Sunday September 22
A project to construct north and southbound auxiliary lanes and bus-on-shoulder improvements on Hwy. 1 between the Bay Avenue/Porter Street and State Park Drive interchanges continues next week with four consecutive full overnight closures of southbound Highway 1 between Park Ave. and State Park Dr.
Travelers will encounter a full overnight closure of southbound Highway 1 between Park Ave. and State Park Dr. for four nights beginning Sunday September 22. These full closures of southbound Highway 1 will be in effect from 11 pm to 6 am. Once crews pick up the closure on Thursday September 26, at 6 am, there will be no closures through the weekend.
A detour will be available. Travelers on southbound Highway 1 will be directed off at Park Ave. and take McGregor Dr. before rejoining Highway 1 at the State Park Dr. onramp to southbound Highway 1.
Local traffic will be detoured onto Soquel Dr. or McGregor Dr. to access State Park Rd. Travelers can expect delays of up to 10 minutes.
During these overnight closures crews will install a series of drainage crossings. This work involves saw-cutting the existing pavement, excavating trenches, installing culverts, and backfilling the trenches.
The contractor for this $78 million project is Granite Construction of Watsonville, CA and the project is expected to be completed by September 2026.
