Highway 1 Paving Project in Northern Santa Cruz County to Begin Sunday July 23
A pavement rehabilitation project on Highway 1 in northern Santa Cruz County is set to commence on Sunday July 23.
This 7.5-mile paving project will take place on Highway 1 from Davenport Landing Rd. to the San Mateo County line. This project will overlay the highway with rubberized hot mix asphalt and will provide a smoother safer drive for the traveling public.
Travelers on Highway 1 will encounter one-way reversing traffic control for the duration of the project. Travelers will experience intermittent traffic control depending on the section of the roadway where paving work is actively taking place.
Daytime traffic control will be in effect Monday thru Thursday from 8:30 am to 4 pm, and Fridays from 8:30 am to 1 pm. Overnight traffic control will be in effect Sundays from 9 pm to 6 am, and Monday thru Thursday from 7 pm to 6 am. There will be no traffic control on weekends from Friday at 1 pm thru Sunday at 9 pm.
Additionally, selected roads which intersect Highway 1 in the construction zone will also be subject to traffic control. These include Cement Plant Road, Davenport Landing Road, Swanton Road, Greyhound Rock County Park Parking Lot, Big Creek Lumber, Canyon Road, Waddell Beach Parking Lot, and Skyline-to-the-Sea Trail Road. These intersections may be subject to traffic control on the same schedule as Highway 1.
Cyclists and pedestrians will be subject to traffic control when traveling through active areas of the construction zone. Cyclists can expect some rough road conditions due to the work. Drivers as well as cyclists should remember to slow down and share the road in this corridor.
The contractor for this $3.65 million project is Papich Construction Inc., of Arroyo Grande, CA. This project is expected to be completed September 1, 2023.
