Guardrail Installation on Highway 1 Continues Reopening of Southbound Ramp at Bay Ave. Set for Mid-March
A project to construct north and southbound auxiliary lanes and bus-on-shoulder improvements on Hwy. 1 between the Bay Avenue/Porter Street and State Park Drive interchanges continues with a focus on center median guardrails.
Guardrail Installation
The current phase of construction continues with guardrail installation in the center median. Once complete, crews will begin the process to remove the temporary barriers which protect workers in the median. A traffic switch will be initiated across two weeks of work which will result in overnight lane and ramp closures. Traffic will then begin to occupy new temporary lanes of travel for the next stage of construction.
Reopening of Bay Ave. Onramp to Southbound Hwy. 1 Set for Mid-March
Once the center median work is complete, crews will next move to restripe the onramp to southbound Hwy. 1 at Bay Ave. Restriping requires dry weather and temperatures above the threshold for application of the striping. The reopening of this ramp, though weather dependent, is tentatively scheduled for March 14.
The contractor for this $78 million project is Granite Construction of Watsonville, CA and the project is expected to be completed by Fall of 2026.
