Highway 129 Traffic Pattern Changes near Lakeview Road

Published September 28, 2021

Travelers at Roundabout near Watsonville Transition To Eastbound Lanes of Highway 129 and Access to Lakeview Rd Closes

A roundabout construction project at the intersection of Highway 129 (Riverside Road) and Lakeview Road near Watsonville marks an important transition today.

Thus far during construction, travelers have been utilizing the westbound lanes of traffic on Highway 129 as crews worked to complete the first half of the roundabout. Crews have now finished construction of this first half. The next phase of the project necessitates a change in traffic patterns as crews now need to shift their work on this project over to these westbound lanes of Highway 129.

As a result, the traffic pattern at this location transitions today. New striping and paving will redirect travelers over to the eastbound lanes of Highway 129. The transition to the eastbound lanes is scheduled to take place today, Tuesday Sept. 28, between 1 pm and 3 pm.

In conjunction with this transition, the intersection of Highway 129 and Lakeview Road will close and remain closed for the next three months.

Directional and electronic message signs will be in place to alert travelers of the new configuration.

Travelers are advised to exercise appropriate caution when driving in the vicinity of this construction work and travelers on Highway 129 can expect delays of up to 5 minutes.

Once completed, the roundabout at the intersection of Highway 129 (Riverside Road) and Lakeview Road will enhance safety for motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians. The roundabout will also reduce the number and severity of any collisions, reduce delay and idling at this intersection, and reduce fuel consumption, emissions, and noise.

This roundabout project is expected to be completed by the end of December 2021.

Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down when driving through highway work zones.
