Shoulder and Sidewalk Closures on Highway 152 for Sidewalk Repair Project

Caltrans will begin daytime shoulder and sidewalk closures along Highway 152 (Main Street) in Watsonville next week as part of the Struve Slough Emergency Sidewalk Repair Project. Work will take place between Clifford Avenue and South Green Valley Road, near Struve Slough and the Watsonville Square Shopping Center.

Construction Schedule: Crews will work from Wednesday, November 5, through Friday, November 7, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

  • Location: Hwy 152 (Main Street), Lane 2, near Clifford Drive and Ohlone Parkway.
  • Work Activity: Sidewalk construction and drainage improvements.

Traffic Impacts:

  • Daytime shoulder closures will be in effect from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.
  • Two-way traffic will remain open, but travelers should expect minor delays.
  • Sidewalk closures will impact pedestrians and bicyclists; detour signage will be in place to redirect foot and bike traffic safely around the work zone.

The $5.09 million project, performed by Granite Rock of Watsonville, includes excavation, placement of lightweight fill, paving, new sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and drainage improvements. The work will enhance pedestrian access and safety along Main Street. Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, November 3, 2025, and is expected to be completed by July 2026.

Caltrans reminds travelers to slow down in work zones, follow posted signage, and allow extra time when traveling through the area.

Road information and updates can also be found on Caltrans District 5 Social Media platforms: X/Twitter at: @CaltransD5, Facebook at: Caltrans Central Coast (District 5) and Instagram at: Caltrans_D5.

Our crews deserve to get home safely too. Drive slowly and carefully in work zones.
