Highway 17 Connector Closures Starting April 11

Published April 9, 2021

Highway 17 Connector to Southbound Hwy 1 in Santa Cruz to Close Overnight Beginning Sunday Night April 11

The connector ramp from southbound Highway 17 to southbound Highway 1 in Santa Cruz will be closed overnight Sunday through Thursday nights over the next four weeks. The first overnight closure will take place this Sunday April 11 thru Friday April 16. Closure hours will be from 10 pm to 6 am.

A detour will be in place. Motorists on southbound Highway 17 will be directed to take the Ocean St. offramp and turn left on Plymouth St. to enter southbound Highway 1.

This closure is scheduled to span four consecutive weeks.

  • Week 1:        Sunday April 11 through Friday April 16        10 pm to 6 am
  • Week 2:        Sunday April 18 through Friday April 23        10 pm to 6 am
  • Week 3:        Sunday April 25 through Friday April 30        10 pm to 6 am
  • Week 4:        Sunday May 2 through Friday May 7            10 pm to 6 am

The connector ramp will be open Fridays from 6 am to Sunday at 10 pm.

Motorists are advised to expect delays of up to 5 minutes.

Message and directional signs will be in place to assist motorists traveling in the area.

This closure is necessary for crews to construct a retaining wall which will improve lines of sight for motorists and to fashion other ramp safety improvements.

The contractor for this $5.12 million project is A. Teichert and Son Inc. of Roseville, CA.

Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down when driving through highway work zones.

For traffic updates on other state highways in Santa Cruz County, travelers may contact Caltrans District 5 Public Affairs at 805-549-3318 or can visit the District 5 website.
