Vegetation Control Work Continues on Highway 236 with Daytime Traffic Control
Caltrans continues with a vegetation control project in Santa Cruz County in support of California’s Wildfire and Forest Resilience Action Plan to manage vegetation and reduce wildfire risk along the state highway system. The objective of this work is to disrupt fuels continuity by removing dead/dying brush and ladder fuels.
For Wednesday, April 16 and Thursday, April 7, travelers will encounter daytime one-way traffic control on five miles of Highway 236, between China Grade and the north junction of Highway 236 with Highway 9 at Waterman Gap. Vegetation removal work will take place between 8:30 am to 3:30 pm.
Travelers can expect delays of up to 15 minutes and are encouraged to be alert for flaggers and all highway workers within the project work zones.
Crews are removing on average between 8,000 and 10,000 lbs. of dense brush daily.
The contractor for this $500,000 fuel reduction plan is C.T.L. Forest Management, Inc. of Cameron Park, CA. This project is expected to be complete in mid-March.
