Highway 9 Accessibility Improvements Begin Next Week in Ben Lomond

Construction crews will begin work next week on a Caltrans project aimed at installing Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant curb ramps along Highway 9 in Ben Lomond. This initiative will significantly improve pedestrian access and safety in the area.

Work is scheduled to start on Monday, October 13, and will continue through Friday, October 24, 2025, between Glenn Arbor Road and Fillmore Avenue.

Traffic Control:

  • Work Dates: October 13 – October 24, 2025
  • Work Hours:
    • Monday–Thursday: 7:00 am to 4:00 pm
    • Fridays: 7:00 am to 1:00 pm

During the construction, two lanes will remain open in each direction, with cones marking the work zone. Two flaggers will assist with traffic control to maintain safe and steady vehicle flow. Shoulder closures will take place near Glen Arbor Road and Mill Street, and minor traffic delays are expected for drivers in both the northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 9.

Pedestrian Access:

Sidewalks will be closed intermittently during the construction. However, temporary pedestrian access routes will be clearly marked and available at all times.

This short-term project will involve excavation, curb ramp installation, and sidewalk improvements to enhance accessibility for all pedestrians, including those using wheelchairs, strollers, or other mobility devices. The contractor responsible for this $159,000 project is Quimu Contracting Inc. of Dixon, California.

This project is part of Caltrans’ ongoing effort to create smoother and safer connections between sidewalks and crosswalks along this vital corridor in Ben Lomond.

Road information and updates can also be found on Caltrans District 5 Social Media platforms: X/Twitter at: @CaltransD5, Facebook at: Caltrans Central Coast (District 5) and Instagram at: Caltrans_D5.

Our crews deserve to get home safely too. Drive slowly and carefully in work zones.
