Highway 9 Long Term Closure Begins 8/25

Published September 2, 2025

Long-Term Lane Closure on Highway 9 for Emergency Repairs

Beginning Monday, August 25, 2025, Caltrans initiated an emergency project on the northbound lane of Highway 9 between Lorenzo Avenue and Prospect Avenue, approximately one-mile south of the Junction with State Route 237. . Work is scheduled for completion by December 5, 2025, if weather permits.

Traffic Control:

  • Lane Closure: One northbound lane on Hwy. 9 between Lorenzo Avenue and Prospect Avenue will remain closed throughout construction.
  • One-Way Traffic: A traffic signal system is in place to manage alternating one-way traffic 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Flaggers: Will be present only when oversized equipment or materials are delivered.

Travelers should anticipate 5-minute delay and plan for extra time when moving through the work zone.

Project Details:

Granite Construction Company is constructing the project for $6.25 million. The project involves staged construction with shoring in the highway median, excavation to the bottom of the retaining wall footing, and replacement of the existing culvert. This emergency work is designed to maintain roadway stability, ensure safety, and preserve the long-term reliability of this mountain corridor.

Caltrans reminds travelers to reduce speed in the work zones and stay alert for crews and equipment.

Road information and updates can also be found on Caltrans District 5 Social Media platforms: X/Twitter at: @CaltransD5, Facebook at: Caltrans Central Coast (District 5) and Instagram at: Caltrans_D5.

Our crews deserve to get home safely too. Drive slowly and carefully in work zones.
