Highway 9 One-Way Reversing Traffic Control Continues During Week of October 26
Travelers on Highway 9 will encounter daytime and overnight one-way reversing traffic control Monday through Friday at multiple locations during the week of Oct. 26.
Projects Under Construction
The Highway 9 San Lorenzo River and Kings Creek Bridge Replacement Project is taking place north of Boulder Creek and involves the full replacement of these bridges for the safety of the traveling public.
- King’s Creek Bridge Replacement / Post Mile 15.41 to 15.55
- San Lorenzo River Bridge Replacement / Post Mile 13.58 to 13.69
Temporary traffic signals at both bridges are in place providing 24/7 signalized one-way control. The one-way traffic control supports the ongoing bridge replacement work. Crews are working on the second phase of the Kings Creek Bridge project, replacing the northbound portion of the bridge. Crews are working on the first phase of the San Lorenzo River Bridge project, replacing the southbound portion of the bridge.
Hwy 9 will be fully closed overnight Monday, October 26 from 8 pm to 6 am at San Lorenzo River Bridge. The closure limits will be from Riverdale Blvd to Monaco Lane as crews erect 4 precast concrete box girders. In addition, Hwy 9 will be fully closed overnight Tuesday, October 27 from 7 pm to 6 am at Kings Creek Bridge from Pool Dr. to Primavera/Old County Hwy as crews erect 7 precast concrete box girders. There will also be a one-way reversing traffic control each night, starting 1 hour earlier, for truck staging north of the bridge. A detour will be available on Hwy 17.
The Highway 9 Felton Pedestrian Safety Improvements Project: Since the 1954 opening of San Lorenzo Valley High School, pedestrians have had to navigate to school along the narrow shoulders of Highway 9. This project will see a sidewalk and bikeable shoulder area built on the southbound side of Highway 9 between the schools complex and Felton’s downtown. During the current phase of construction, a temporary concrete barrier was installed closing one of the southbound lanes on Highway 9 approaching Graham Hill/Felton Empire Road. This barrier is essential for the safety of crews working behind it for all current phases of work and is expected to remain in place through February 2027. Please allow for extra time during your commute through this area. When complete, the project will provide transformative safety enhancements for pedestrians and cyclists for generations to come.

Crews will be working both daytime and overnight behind channelizers and k-rail, they will be removing an existing wall at Post Mile 6.4 to 6.6. Forming and pouring sidewalk at Post Mile 6.7 to 6.85 and forming sidewalk at Post Mile 7.1 to 7.2.

The work took place between Brookdale and the junction with upper Highway 236 improving the operation of key drainage systems, replacing culverts, paving, and enhancement of erosion control systems. Community members may still see work in this area on weekdays with minimal traffic impacts until all materials are removed from the site. This project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
