Due to unsafe conditions, the County of Santa Cruz Department of Public Works is closing Soquel-San Jose Road south of Amaya Ridge Road and north of Olsen Road, effective immediately.
County geologists have recommended closure of the road due to an unstable road bed at PM 5.9. The County will conduct additional analysis before designing a repair plan, and there is no plan to immediately reopen the road. There are no available detours around the impacted area.
Travel from greater Bay Area into Santa Cruz County remains difficult. Motorists are advised to use Highway 17 (if passable), Highway 92 or Highway 129 as alternative routes. Highland Way remains closed between PM 3.06 and Spanish Ranch Road due to an earlier mudslide.
