Latest road information from Caltrans

Caltrans announces highway openings following mud/rockslides. Portions of other highways remain closed

CENTRAL COAST – Caltrans District 5 has announced the latest road information on the Central Coast:

  • Both directions of Hwy. 17 in Santa Cruz County are now open from Vinehill Road to Sugarloaf Road. 
  • State Route 41 is closed between Ironwood Drive (SLO PM .0.38) and San Gabriel Road (SLO PM 14.21) between Morro Bay and Atascadero in San Luis Obispo County.  State Route 41 is expected to be closed all this week.
  • State Route 1 is closed from Ragged Point (SLO PM 72.87) to Fernwood (Monterey PM 47.03) due to rock and mudslides and trees down in multiple locations.  Caltrans will reassess the condition of State Route 1 today at 12 noon.
  • Hwy. 9 in Santa Cruz County remains closed for maintenance repairs from Glengarry Road (PM 4.75) to just north of the Rincon Railroad crossing (PM 2.4) due to mud/rock slides. It is not known when the highway will re-open.
  • Hwy. 9 is now open at Irwin Way in Santa Cruz County.                                                                             
  • Hwy. 9 is now open at the Santa Cruz/San Mateo County line following a mudslide.
  • Hwy. 35 remains closed from Summit Rd (PM 0.0) at the Santa Cruz/Santa Clara County line to Bear Creek Rd. (PM 3.95) due to a mudslide. 
  • State Route 152 in Santa Cruz County remains closed from 2.1 miles east of Watsonville at Carlton Road/Casserly Road (SC PM 3.69) to the Santa Cruz/Santa Clara County line through Friday, Jan. 13.  It is not known when the highway will re-open.

Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down when driving through highway construction zones.
