Overnight Fishhook Closure 10/30

Published October 29, 2024

Highway 1 and Highway 17 Fishhook Connector Set for Full Overnight Closure Wednesday October 30 from 7 PM to 6 AM

A project to replace a damaged girder at the ‘Fishhook’ connector at the junction of Highway 1 and Highway 17 in Santa Cruz will result in a full overnight closure on Wednesday, October 30 from 7 pm to 6 am.

During the overnight closure hours, travelers on northbound Hwy. 1 will be unable to use the connector to reach southbound Hwy. 17 or continue their travels on northbound Hwy. 1. A detour is available.

Travelers on northbound Hwy. 1 will be directed to take northbound Hwy. 17 and exit at Pasatiempo Dr., then continue to the Pasatiempo Dr. onramp to southbound Hwy. 17.

During overnight closure hours, travelers on southbound Hwy. 1 will not be able to continue on to Hwy. 17 north. A detour is available.

Travelers on southbound Hwy. 1 will be directed to continue south on Hwy. 1 to the Morrissey Blvd. exit, then continue to the Morrissey Blvd. onramp to northbound Hwy. 1 and take the exit to northbound Hwy. 17.

Additionally, the Ocean St./Plymouth St. onramp to northbound Hwy. 17 will also be closed.

Message and directional signs will be in place and CHP will be present to assist with traffic control.

During this overnight closure crews will install a pre-cast concrete girder which will provide an additional foot of vertical clearance. This girder will replace one previously struck and damaged at this location.

Bridge and girder work near Highways 1 and 17 is expected to be completed in early December.

Road information and updates can also be found on Caltrans District 5 Social Media platforms: Twitter at: @CaltransD5, Facebook at: Caltrans Central Coast (District 5) and Instagram at: Caltrans_D5.

Our crews deserve to get home safely too.  Drive slowly and carefully in work zones.
