SANTA CRUZ COUNTY – Cooler than expected overnight temperatures this week have delayed work and extended the schedule of overnight lane closures on Hwy. 17 to include Friday night May 12. Application of a high friction surface treatment to the roadway was cut short earlier this week on Tuesday and Wednesday nights when temperatures remained below the application threshold.
For Thursday May 11: Travelers on southbound Hwy. 17 will encounter the closure of one lane from 6:30 pm to 7 am. Travelers on northbound 17 will encounter a lane closure from 6 pm to 5:30 am.
For Friday May 12: Travelers on northbound Hwy. 17 will encounter the closure of a single lane from 6:30 pm to 7 am. These lane closures will take place on Hwy. 17 north of Scotts Valley near the Laurel Curve wildlife undercrossing.
We are thankful for the support of CHP who will be on site to assist with traffic control. Message and directional signs will be in place to assist travelers in the area. Travelers can expect delays of 10 minutes.
These lane closures will permit crews to apply high friction surface treatment to the roadway. This treatment involves the application of very high-quality aggregate to the pavement using a polymer binder. The higher pavement friction helps motorists maintain better control in both dry and wet driving conditions.
