SANTA CRUZ COUNTY – The paving project along seven-miles of Hwy. 1 from Aptos to the junction of State Route 9 continues with the overnight full closure of the southbound Hwy. 17 to southbound Hwy. 1 connector ramp next week, starting Sunday night, June 7.
The contractor will be paving the middle lane between Emeline Ave. and Soquel Dr. They will then be paving the median shoulder.
The Southbound Fish Hook Connector ramp will be completely closed from 9 pm Sunday, June 7 to 7 a.m. to Monday morning, June 8 and from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday -Thursday nights, completing on Friday morning at 7 am, June 12. Detour schematic below.

The purpose of this seven-mile project is to resurface Highway 1 from north Aptos to and includes upgrades to Americans with Disabilities (ADA) ramps, bridge rail replacement at the Fish Hook and Ocean Street bridges, improvements to electrical systems, bridge deck treatments and the replacement of concrete barriers.
More specifically, this project is upgrading 46 curb ramp locations throughout the Santa Cruz area to meet the current ADA standard. These curb ramps are being installed to provide safe mobility for persons with disabilities.
In addition to the curb ramp upgrades, the project will install 32 Accessible Pedestrian Signals (APS)—audible signals to help the visually impaired. These are going in at Morrissey Ave., Soquel Dr., Bay Ave./Porter St., Park Ave. and State Park Dr.—six overcrossings on State Route 1 have ADA improvements. Construction is primarily overnight from Sunday night through Friday morning, weather dependent.
The contractor for this $23 million project is Granite Construction of Watsonville. It’s 50% complete and scheduled to done by end of the year.
