Overnight Closures of Southbound Highway 1 to Start Monday, June 9 at 11 Pm for Overhead Sign Removal
A project to construct north and southbound auxiliary lanes and bus-on-shoulder improvements on Hwy. 1 between the Bay Avenue/Porter Street and State Park Drive interchanges continues with an overnight closure of southbound Highway 1. Crews will take advantage of this overnight closure to remove overhead sign structures between Park Ave. and State Park Dr.
Beginning Monday, June 9, at 9 pm, travelers on southbound Hwy. 1 will encounter both a single lane closure and a full closure of the highway between Bay/Porter and State Park Dr.
From 9 pm to 11 pm, travelers will encounter the closure of a single lane of southbound Hwy. 1 between Bay/Porter and State Park Dr.
From 11 pm until 2 am, travelers will encounter a full closure of both lanes of southbound Hwy. 1. During the full closure period a detour is available. Southbound travelers will be directed off at the Bay/Porter exit and take Soquel Dr. before rejoining Hwy. 1 at the State Park Ave. onramp to southbound Hwy. 1
From 2 am and 6:30 am, travelers will encounter the closure of a single lane of southbound Hwy. 1 between Bay/Porter and State Park Dr.
Message and directional signs will alert southbound travelers in advance of these closures and CHP will be on hand to assist with traffic control.
The contractor for this $78 million project is Granite Construction of Watsonville, CA and the project is expected to be completed by Fall of 2026.
