Highway 236 North of Big Basin State Park Set for Full Closure Starting Monday July 31
A full closure of Hwy. 236 to perform permanent repairs to damage caused by Winter storms will go into effect starting Monday July 31 at 8 am.
Upper Highway 236 will be closed approximately two miles south of its junction with upper Hwy. 9, and 7 miles north of Big Basin State Park Headquarters.
Message and directional signs will be in place to alert travelers in advance of this closure.
This closure is expected to remain in place until mid-October 2023.
Travelers will still have access to Big Basin State Park through Boulder Creek via lower Hwy. 236. The detour will require using Hwy. 9 and the open segment of Hwy. 236.
This project will include constructing a retaining wall to repair damage caused by Winter rain events.
Travelers can expect additional roadwork this Fall and Winter over the next several months (weather permitting) on Hwy. 35 near Bear Creek Road and on Hwy. 9 near Highland Park.
