Update #1 05/19/2023 – SANTA CRUZ COUNTY – A project to enhance safety for pedestrian crossings on Mission St. (Hwy. 1) in Santa Cruz will continue the week of May 22nd with overnight lane closures. Travelers on north and southbound Mission St. in Santa Cruz will encounter an alternating closure of one lane in each direction at Olive St. and Berkshire Ave., from 8 pm to 6 am. Lane closures are scheduled for Sunday (5/21) through Thursday (5/25) overnight, with no work scheduled between Friday at 6 am and Sunday at 8 pm. Travelers can expect delays of up to 10 minutes. Note: There will be no work over the upcoming Memorial Day Weekend. This work is scheduled to be completed by the end of August 2023.
These lane closures will permit crews to perform electrical work in support of replacing flashing lights with pedestrian hybrid beacons, while also installing signs and pavement markings.

On Monday May 15 and Tuesday May 16, travelers on north and southbound Mission St. in Santa Cruz will encounter an alternating closure of one lane in each direction at Olive St. and Berkshire Ave., from 8 pm to 6 am. On Wednesday May 17 and Thursday May 18, travelers will encounter an alternating closure of one lane in each direction of Hwy. 1 at Bellevue St./Averett St. and Trescony St. from 8 pm to 6 am. Travelers can expect delays of up to 10 minutes.
